Q: my laptop system is broken; it says that file hal.dll is missing (or broken). Besides, my laptop is a little old, Dell Latitude cs400, no CD-ROM, and I have no ghost.
So I wanna ask if I want to reinstall system, what to do?
And I have a laptop (IBM 390x) built-in CD-ROM, what can I do to install the drive onto this laptop?
Should I buy some data cable? Hope your suggestions, I’d really appreciate!
A:
Hello, first insert XP installation disc and restart laptop, and then choose failure recovery console. Follow the prompt to enter Windows DOS directory. Under DOS prompt, type: expand x:\i386\driver.cab /f:hal.dll c:\windows\system32\ (x: is the CD-ROM drive).
Use expand again, first copy halaacpi.dll to c:\windows\system32\, and rename hal.dll, and then restart the computer. Copy the file halacpi.dll again (because the source file of hal.dll is halacpi.dll), rename it and restart.
