InstructionsThings You'll Need:
Step 1
Consult the manual for the motherboard of your computer. If you do not have the manual for your motherboard, consult an online manual if one is available (see Resources.) The manual can help you locate the CMOS battery of your motherboard.
Step 2
Make sure the Sony Laptop is turned off and that the unit is unplugged. Remove the screws from the bottom of the laptop that holds the casing together and separate the casing to show the laptop's motherboard.
Step 3
Take the CMOS battery out of the laptop. The CMOS battery is the small, circular silver piece that looks much like a watch battery or key fob battery.
Step 4
Inspect the latches holding the CMOS battery in place. Often, this is one small piece of metal that protrudes over the battery. Remove the battery by wedging a flat edge screwdriver between the latch and the battery and gently prying the battery up and out of the motherboard.
Step 5
Leave the battery out of the motherboard for at least thirty minutes. After this time, the BIOS should return to its factory settings, erasing the BIOS password.
Step 6
Replace the battery in the motherboard and replace the unit's casing. Plug the unit back in if you are using the power adapter and turn the unit on. The Sony laptop should boot right up without asking for a password.
