A: Hope someone in here can help me. In May 2006 my partner purchased a Dell Latitude D620 notebook it has been fine and dandy until the other day.
We noticed that when the laptop was running on battery power it was showing as being connected to the AC power unit in the left hand corner of the task bar. When we clicked on the power meter and the Dell QuickSet and it wasn’t registering that a battery was installed. The laptop was also shutting down without warning. I charged the battery up overnight and when turned on and plugged in the battery icon on the laptop shows green, when I remove the AC power unit the battery icon goes orange and flashes and still the laptop wont recognise there is a battery and still shows its running on the power unit.
Please can you assist in diagnosing the problem (I suspect you will say I need a new battery). Any help and advice appreciated.
Thanks
Tracey
A: Yea, best case scenario it's just a dead battery and you can just buy a replacment. The other end of that is that there is something wrong with the connectors on the unit.
If you are still in warranty, see if dell can send you another or help you diagnose the issue.
