There’re some special folders in Windows XP system, and do you know about these special files? Wanna know what are they used for?
1. SystemVolumeInformation folder
It’s formed after enabling system recovery, which records all operation information for the partition after setting recovery points. And on NTFS partition system, by default, only System account is allowed to visit the recovery folder, even administrator is denied.
But FAT32 partition has no such limitation.
2. pagefile.sys file
Windows page file is virtual memory file, generally, the size is about 1.5-2.5 times of physical memory. Virtual memory file could be set on other partition, but the partition could not be formatted in Windows system.
3. hiberfil.sys file
The large file on system drive is the hibernation file, which is formed after enabling hibernation function. When hibernated, computer would store the data in memory to hard disk, which could resume to the previous state. After cancelling it, the hiberfil.sys file would be auto eliminated.
4. thumbs.db file
It exists under picture folder, which would form again after deletion. And it becomes bigger as picture number grows. It is not a virus, but a cache data library file which could fasten to display breviary. You can set up like this: in “Folder options”, select the option “No cache breviary”, then this file could be deleted.
