I bought a new G60-230US notebook which came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
Software that I needed to install on it was not Vista compatible.
Tried using XP Media Center CDs that I was no longer using but it would blue screen when trying to find a HDD to install to.
Read a couple threads on this forum about slipstreaming ICH9M drivers onto the XP install CD.
Being an engineer, I figured that has to be a better way...
I first tried the Intel chipset RAID driver floppy install (newer version may exist since this forum posting was made) with a USB floppy drive, selected the ICH9M option when prompted with the F6 but I would still get the BSOD when the XP install would try to find a hard disk drive to install to.
Solution!
Open the TXTSETUP.OEM file found in the Intel chipset package with notepad and change the following line in the header from:
scsi = iaStor_ICH8MEICH9ME
TO
scsi = iaAHCI_ICH9MEM
Save the file, boot from the XP CD, hit F6 when prompted and select the ICH9M option.
BINGO, the HDD is found and the XP install will proceed as normal.
This method should work with any other HP/Compaq notebook with the ICH9M silicon.
