Q:
I have a m1210 laptop, and now I wonder whether I could install the Vista system on other laptops with the sent Vista installation disc. Hope your suggestion and help, thank you!!
A:
1): Generally it’s not feasible. Manufacturer certification is bound with every laptop. Technically, the system installation Dell sent has an internal “Checkup application confirming Dell laptop”.
2): As long as it’s also a Dell laptop, then you could do this, but technically, if you have a valid key, then you could do it.
3): If the laptop is of Dell model, and it has a new BIOS, then you could install Vista system on it. If Vista system could recognize the SLIC in the BIOS, then you don’t need any other action, system disc would auto recognize Dell system. Therefore, the best method to ensure whether it could install VISTA system is to check up the SLIC table in BIOS. Whereas, if you could install system on it, and it shows activated on a Dell machine, then it’s invalid, you cannot update it to SP1. And in order to update to SP1, you need the key on the bottom of the laptop.
