Recently, more and more fans would like to install Tiger system. You could directly upgrade on the base of original 10.3, or carry out clean installation completely. For system stability and no hidden trouble, we strongly suggest you adopt the latter one. Lean installation needs to format the hard disk completely, as a landmark system update, it’s worth doing this.
Before formatting hard disk, necessary backup is a must, besides, you’d ensure that necessary information could be preserved, especially the information that recovery couldn’t be installed.
Generally, we could do backup jobs on some aspects:

·iPhoto picture library backup, copy: ~(user)/photo/iPhoto Library folder, install Tiger and then replace it back. If there’s software edition update, Mac would auto update these materials

·iTunes music library backup, copy:~(user)/Music/iTunes folder, install Tiger and then replace it back.

·Safari bookmark backup: use .mac backup or copy “~/resource library/Safari/ Bookmarks.plist”

·Mail backup: “~/resource library/Mail folder”, otherwise, mails are gone after reinstallation.

·If you use Skype, copy “~/resource library/Skype folder”, ensure chat settings and information could be preserved.

·Key bunch backup: “~/resource library/Keychains folder”, there’re many user passwords

·Fonts backup: “~/resource library/Fonts folder”, if you have a fonts installing CD, then there’s nothing serious; but if not, then you’d have to copy the folder.

·Calendar and iCal schedule backup: many people install Chinese lunar calendar in iCal, copy “~/resource library/Calendars folder” and “~/resource library/Application Support/iCal folder”.
·Address Book material: use address book software output backup, or copy “~/resource library/Application Support/AddressBook folder”

·Use DragThing, use “Save the backup as….”, preserve Dock setting arrangement, next you open the file again, there’s no need to rebuild it.

·Use Firefox browser: copy “~/resource library/Application Support/Firefox folder”

·Use Proteus for chatting, copy : “~/ resource library/Application Support/Proteus folder”.

·Use You Control Tunes plug-in, copy: “~/ resource library/Application Support/You Software folder”, at the same time you’ve preserved the registry information.

·Use iSQ software, preset the folder “~/Manuscript/Sinomac User Data” you need preserve, there’s necessary QQ information.

If there’s software losing registry key, find the .plist file for the software from “~/resource library/Perferences/Folder”, next time install, you’d just cover it. But this is not always successful, partial program serial information is written into software.

Most software information out of this could all be preserved by similar backup method, next time to install, you could directly use it. So easy. But as under Tiger system, there are many software need updating, and their relevant system information would also change, therefore, I suggest you should keep an eye on further update information. Don’t use original Panther edition as much as possible.
