Q: My Dell Inspiron 1501 is shutting down as if someone pulled the power cord. It started a couple days ago, and has become progressively more frequent to the
point where I cannot boot. I am now booting from the "Ultimate Boot CD" and running CPU and Memory tests. The CPU and Memory tests don't fail, but within a
minute the machine shuts down. I have tried running off the AC power, or the battery. Same result.
I was thinking it was a possibly a CPU overheating. So, yesterday I installed a utility in Windows to monitor CPU temperature and it never got higher than 65C
even under CPU load. So, I don't think it is an overheating issue.
I am thinking it is a CPU or motherboard issue.
What can be done to further diagnose the problem? What would the cost be to replace the motherboard & CPU assuming that is the problem? I am wondering if
it is even worth replacing considering it is only a $600 laptop (18 months ago).
Thanks in advance for your assistance!!
